Nancy Prickett was born on 9 May 1813 in Monongalia County, Virginia, the third of eleven children and the second of six daughters of Job and Mary Price Prickett.
On 19 August 1833, when she was twenty, she married John Hill. She bore him ten known children, six sons and four daughters:

1850 Census for John Tate and Nancy Dallas Prickett Hill Family
John died in 1854 of unknown causes and in the mid-1850s Nancy and her family moved with her parents and most of her siblings from Marion County to Illinois and settled in Carbondale, Jackson County.
She appears in the 1870 census with $1000 of real property and living with two unmarried sons, Josiah (36), and Richard (22), both brick masons, and an unmarried daughter Elinor (19) who is attending school. Only Elinor is reported as able to read and write.
: On 21 September 1886, when she was seventy-three, Nancy died of unknown causes in Carbondale, Jackson County, Illinois]. She is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.
