Biography
Two dates for Gershom's birth: 7 April 1691 and 24 April 1693 at Chelmsford. Records are contradictory in regard to the date of Gershom's birth. There appear to have been "two or three different sets of old records in Chelmsford, such as parish, town and church records. The record which usually has been followed gives Apr. 24, 1693, as the date of Gershom's birth and July 8, 1693, as that of his brother Jonathan's." Another record is as follows: "Gershom, son of Gershom and Sarah Proctor, born Apr. 7, 1691." This is verified by a record of the funeral, Feb. 19, 1774, of "Gershom Proctor aged 84" and consequently assumed to be correct. (See Descendants of Robert Proctor Genealogy below.)
