James was born in November 9th, 1853 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He is the son of John Pugh and Elizabeth Pipher. He was to young to fight in the Civil War like some of his brothers did. Family story is he could hear the Battle at Gettysburg.
He married Rachel Ann Miller on March 25, 1875 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. So after getting married James leaves Pennsylvania for Ohio as some of his siblings. On stop was Forrest, Hardin County, Ohio were I found a cousin also went. But by 1880 he is found in Hancock County, Ohio. By the 1900 census he has found were he will live out the rest of his life in the county of Richland were his brothers Samuel, Edward, Henry and sister Margaret live.
James and Rachel had 5 children: William James, Edward Harry, Artemus (who I only find in 1880 census), Olive Mae and Walter Clark Pugh.
James wife Rachel died June 15, 1917 in Richland County, Ohio there is a will which I found odd. I will scan and add when I can shrink it. James died March 22, 1938. They are buried at Mansfield Cemetery not far from my sister Jill Michel Thomas his 3rd great granddaughter. Through his son Edward Harry Pugh.
