Samuel Pulman lived and died in Virginia.

When Samuel Pulman was born on June 7, 1826, in Northowram, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England,[1][2][3][4][5][6] his father, Thomas, was 19 and his mother, Sarah, was 21.

In 1848, he and his father left for America in preparation for bringing the rest of the family. The two of them lived and worked in Philadelphia where he met Frances G Carroll from Ireland. By Aug 1850 they were married.[3] In September, his step-mother arrived with the rest of the family. Farms were purchased outside Alexandria, Virginia whence the family, now two families, relocated.[7]

The location in Northern Virginia proved to be unfortunate when Virginia seceded from the United States and peaceful South was invaded by cruel Norther troops. A fort was built on his father's farm. At least one cannon ball from that or a nearby fort fell at Samuel's farm, Mt. Erin, killing two of his children and injuring a third. The couple and three of their children survived the War of Northern Aggression and prospered. Samuel died at the age of 70 on December 24, 1896 and was buried in Franconia, Virginia.[8]
