Lucy was born in Yorshire, England in the last quarter of 1848.^{[1][2][3][4][5][6]} She migrated to Philadelphia with her mother and siblings arriving on the Berlin on 23 Sep 1850,^[7][8][9] but the family moved to a farm outside Alexandria, VA soon after.

She married George Curtis on 5 Apr 1871.^[10] They had five children.

Lucy died on 17 Sep 1923.
