Medical Updates
- UPDATE: I wanted to notify all my WikiTree cousins and friends that my husband, Felix, was just placed in hospice yesterday. He passed away this morning about 4:00 am. My daughter reported that he had a smile on his face. He had a happy death. God bless you all for your prayers (2 Dec 2023).
- UPDATE: These last two weeks or so, my husband has been in hospital, and in decline. He is in a rehab unit right now, but when I saw him last night he could not be fully roused. His transplanted kidney has failed, and he was been on dialysis once again. I hate that it is happening in the holidays again. His mother died around Christmas time many years ago. It was very sudden and unexpected. Indeed, the disease that my husband and his mother shared, together with his other siblings, ran rampant. PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is only supposed to strike up to 50% of a family. Unfortunately, it has struck all of them. Though there have been sharp divides, I wish all the other siblings well. However, should my husband pass, we will not be notifying any of them. It is sad. It is sad to see so many family members struck by the same disease. But it is much more sad that none of the siblings would get along when they all had the chance to do so. All those who might chance to read this, please pray for my husband and his siblings during this Advent and Christmastide (25 Nov 2023).
- UPDATE: A week ago tonight, midnight and actually Sunday morning, I ended up in ER with what I can only describe as "heartburn on steroids." The first and hopefully only time I have a gallbladder attack. I got out from the hospital last Wednesday evening. I will not be up to par for some time I'm afraid (23 Oct 2023).
- UPDATE: Actually, I am notifying everyone I am on a mini-staycation. Family from out of town are visiting. I hope to be on track in a few more days (20 Jul 2023).
- UPDATE: We may be back to square one with the fistula. The old problems have resurfaced. I will consult with my primary surgeon in a few weeks (8 Apr 2023).
- UPDATE: I haven't made an update in a while, because I had to wait so long for a stress test for my heart. After completing the test, it was found that I couldn't have the surgery that was originally proposed. So, it was decided that they would make a third try to close off the fistula in my colon. I had the procedure last Tuesday, 21 Mar 2023. It now appears it was a success. When that is fully verified, I will be asking my Orthopedist for a right knee replacement. I thank everyone for their prayers and kinds words (Mar 24, 2023),
- UPDATE: May 9, 2022 I had cataract surgery with lens implant. I had the other one done about two years ago. I can see perfectly! Now, on to the rest of me! (20 May 2022).
- UPDATE: My appointment with the hernia specialist was vastly underwhelming. “Tell me again how fat I am?!” According to him I have to lose 30 pounds. What about the 50 to 60 pounds I’ve lost since 2019? Him, I don’t need. If it was that bad he would have said so. Even the general surgeon said I only needed to lose 15 pounds. As I say, each one of us has one, but it doesn’t mean we have to be one! (1 Apr 2022).
- UPDATE: I had a CT Scan last Friday. We have the CD of it. My husband went to get the report today, and came back with two prior CT Scans, and the two other reports. This is wonderful, as I am to see the hernia specialist on Monday, 21 Mar 2022, and I can take them all to him. Praise the Lord! Keep me in your prayers! (14 Mar 2022).
- UPDATE: Last Tuesday was a redo of the procedure of last month. The surgeon said everything was in place from last month. So, all he could conjecture was that the fistula has another opening somewhere. I have been referred on to another surgical department for a possible "Sigmoidectomy and fistula takedown." In other words, another resection. I had an other resection years ago. Only this time, it is supposed to be minimally invasive. They have indeed come a long way with medical science in this department (24 Dec 2021).
- UPDATE: Yesterday, I had a secondary procedure. Everything the surgeon did last month is still in place. So, what that means is, I will be referred to further surgery to close this errant fistula. More to come. Please continue to pray for me (22 Dec 2021).
- UPDATE: The procedure didn’t quite do the job, so the surgeon will try a second time. Still, in all, there has been vast improvement (23Nov 2021).
- UPDATE: Tomorrow I make a third try at a colonoscopy, where the fistula will be clamped. I can't even imagine how that is done. I have been referred to a different group that does more advanced procedures than most hospitals. Keep me in your prayers (7 Nov 2021).
- UPDATE: Guess what happens when you are prepping for a colonoscopy with a laxative, and an open wound in the front? Five to six hours of rushing back and forth to the bathroom, not to do just the obvious, but because it's coming out the front too! Some doctor didn't think this one through. Both I and my husband (he had to patch me up 3 to 4 times) were exhausted when things started to subside around 11:00 pm. With the washing machine washing the blankets and covers, I could not contemplate doing that all over again in the morning. And I would be too exhausted for the colonoscopy. I was in no shape for it. I had my husband cancel the appointment, while I now contemplate getting a new surgeon (24 Aug 2021).
- UPDATE: Just when I thought things were winding down and I was finally healing, I get set back about ten paces. One of the fistulas we thought had healed, showed that it is not. Back to the drawing board (14 Aug 2021).
- UPDATE: My Case Manager Nurse retired, and another favorite nurse that had recently gotten her RN moved on. I am happy for both of them, but sad that I will not see them again. Some good news! I am now being treated by my surgeon's PA, and he is closing the wound with silver nitrate. It may now be almost healed. And after almost two years, I am now able to shower. Because of the change in my treatment, I no longer have daily nursing visits. A nurse will come twice weekly, and my daughter will change the bandage on all other days. It has been a very long haul (12 Jun 2021).
- UPDATE: Another curlycue-ish thing to occur now, is that I have another infection that is far more insidious. My Case Manager Nurse began another treatment that will kill any bacteria in the wound. I am also expecting another antibiotic from my primary physician. When it rains it pours (15 Mar 2021).
- UPDATE: We had the first of our covid-19 vaccinations last Friday. We will go for the second vaccination next month (7 Mar 2021).
- UPDATE: Ok! Got a prescription for reading glasses yesterday. I will be taking it to my regular Optometrist. Still at a standstill on the open wound and my surgeon's hope to get me to a diagnostic colonoscopy. I received a phone appointment to a gastroenterologist, who will determine how urgent I may need one. This was my surgeon's idea, mind you! More to come after I speak with the gastroenterologist; but that won't happen until March 2021 (16 Jan 2021).
- UPDATE: As of last Monday, I now have perfect sight in my right eye. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE had perfect sight in my right eye. I am so thankful to God, to medical science, and Dr. Rimmer. It will be a while before they can do surgery on my left eye. But I am so happy. My new sight is my Christmas present. Merry Christmas everyone! (5 Dec 2020).
- UPDATE: I am having cataract surgery with a lens insert on Monday, 30 Nov 2020. I won't be able to be on line for up to three days following the procedure. Keep me in your prayers (26 Nov 2020).
- UPDATE: Things are looking up for once. I may soon have cataract surgery, maybe even a knee replacement, and it looks like the fistulas are finally on their way to healing completely. Keep me and my family in your prayers! (2 Nov 2020).
- UPDATE: COVID-19 Report: We have all vastly improved. Our family member did not have to go to the hospital after all. Everyone is back to work, except us retired folks. And even then, we all do some sort of work in and around the house (13 Sep 2020).
- UPDATE: Coming up for air. Our family has been experiencing COVID-19. All are doing well, except one. Our family member may have to be admitted to the hospital (9 Aug 2020).
- UPDATE: Some good news today! Even though there is still a lot of drainage from my open wound, the nurse said it looks like it is closing up. Even my daughter (who is also one of my nurses) said there was a decided change even since last night. Hooray! Not out of the woods yet, but at least things are moving in the right direction for once. Must be all my husband's prayers. Thank you, St. Rita of Cascia! Saint of the Impossible. (1 Jul 2020)
- UPDATE: Lately, a hypergrandulated skin flap developed directly underneath my open wound. I had to ask for a WoundTech Nurse to come see me. She came out, and in one treatment with meta-honey, it was gone. However, a small hole remained. So now she has to treat that. It's a bit more complicated than that, but that's it in a nutshell. The never ending saga! (11 Jun 2020).
- UPDATE: I actually went to have my teeth cleaned today! Everybody was following CDC guidelines, etc., and I actually enjoyed the visit. COVID-19 isn't gone, but hopefully they will have a vaccine for it by fall or winter (21 May 2020).
- UPDATE: Can't believe it! I actually got to SEE my neurologist during this pandemic, only to learn there is still seizure activity in my brain. What next? (8 May 2020).
- UPDATE: Took the last of my antibiotic for another infection in my fistula. I hope it takes this time! (23 Apr 2020).
- UPDATE: Got my new laptop. As soon as I figure things out, I'll be good to go (10 Apr 2020).
- UPDATE: Now my laptop tanked. Thankfully I have saved an old copy of a manuscript I was working on. But my journals in manuscript form are lost. Thankfully, my longhand journals are at hand. Keep me in your prayers (29 Mar 2020).
- UPDATE: On top of everything, I had an infection at the fistula site. It's gone now. But now we have the Coronavirus! (COVID-19) to contend with (16 Mar 2020.)
- UPDATE: I have another complication. I may have an infection at the site of one of the fistulas. My nurses will be in contact with my primary. Keep me in your prayers (1 Mar 2020).
- UPDATE: I have lost 35 pounds since I was in the hospital last September. Always a plus side, I guess! (19 Feb 2020).
- UPDATE: Keeping my fingers crossed. After almost six months since my surgery to remove a colonic abscess, and to treat diverticulitis, the healing is winding down. My nurses are still working to keep the wound open in order for the underlying fistulas to close. Keep all your prayers and notes coming in. They are much appreciated (9 Feb 2020).
- UPDATE: Long story short: Landed in hospital January 2nd, in 6 days. Diagnosis for of all things "petite mal" (little seizure). I have to wrap my head around this one (13 Jan 2020).
- UPDATE: On the third day of Prednisone. Things are better. Oh, I forgot to mention, I’ve lost about 30 pounds since being in the hospital (30 Dec 2019).
- UPDATE: I went to our local urgent care last night (Dec 16). I have bronchitis. I’m coughing my lungs out. So sorry, I won’t be up to Christmas at all (17 Dec 2019).
- UPDATE: I am feeling better. I had another close call the day after Thanksgiving. I ended up in ER with seriously low blood pressure. It took them all day to decide if they were going to keep me or not. They let me go finally, and I went home to a turkey sandwich! Oh, I forgot to mention. I have lost 22 pounds since being in the hospital (8 Dec 2019).
- UPDATE: I am feeling so much better. The ‘complication’ is still with me, but it is due to my surgeon’s wish to see that the fistulas heal naturally, even though the wound itself wants to heal. The work now is to keep the wound open, so that whatever is beneath it heals. (23 Nov 2019)
- UPDATE: There is still that complication, but nothing to resolve it yet. Keep me in your prayers. (14 Nov 2019)
- UPDATE: Complication about my open wound has developed. I see my surgeon this afternoon. None of this bodes well. I may be in surgery again very soon. (1 Nov 2019)
- UPDATE: I feel like I take one step forward, only to be pushed two steps back. Never a happy medium. (26 Oct 2019)
- UPDATE: Unfortunately, there is a complication in my condition. My RN has been trying to get in touch with my surgeon for further orders. Needless to say this puts a damper on my research. (12 Oct 2019)
- UPDATE: Discharged 26 Sep 2019. I’ve still got a ways to go with a wound and overall body strengthening. One day at a time. (27 Sep 2019)
- UPDATE: Been in the hospital 11 days. Now in rehab. Keep me in your prayers (15 Sep 2019)
- UPDATE: First of all, thank you to those of you were actually reading my blather on my page. It is much appreciated. I got a call today for a referral to a new Orthopedist. I know that I probably won't have surgery due to being over weight, but it is a breath of fresh air.
- I have learned (and it is always wise to admit you have been wrong all these years) I can drink a lot of water and not blow up like a balloon! In fact, I have been losing weight. It's about all that I drink now. I will let you all know how all of this transpires. (26 Aug 2019).
- UPDATE: I have taken my sixth fall in three years. This one is the more serious. My leg is black and blue. Before this, I had a strange incident with my Orthopedist of many years. He told me I didn't have to see him anymore. I didn't know what to say or do. It's obvious I will not be seeing him anymore, but not because I don't need to see him anymore, but because he's acting erratically. I will be requesting a referral for a new Orthopedist. So strange. (22 Aug 2019)

We'll probably do most group chat there, but the most important things will be posted on G2G, which you will be notified about if you follow the jewish_roots tag.

If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.
If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.
We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with another Team.
You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile from your own watchlist that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.
We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements. You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.

The project has two participation requirements: be a member of a Team and respond to check-ins. You missed the January 2021 check-in - perhaps because it was via the Discussion Google Group. Although that Google Group doesn't get a lot of traffic, it is still e-mail traffic.

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.
What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?
This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.
I have more English than Scots individuals, so I’m not always working the project there. But I wish to remain a member, specifically in categorizations. That seems to be a good fit for me. I hope that is ok.

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around
First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?
Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

I left you a message about a week ago to let you know about the restructuring of the Wales Project into new teams. I have not yet heard back from you with your team(s) selection and e-mail address so I can get you added to the project’s Google group. I need help: Category: Virginia Colony should be top level (meaning no people profiles) and there are hundreds of profiles that need to have the Virginia Colony category changed to a more specific location category. Could you please go to Category: Virginia Colony & any profiles showing an "A..." county in the list of profiles, could you edit those profiles to not have "Category: Virginia Colony" but the appropriate County category instead? (And since they are pre-USA, they should only have "Category: A... County, Virginia Colony" not the corresponding Virginia category also. If they aren't pre-USA [defined as before 4 July 1776], they shouldn't be in any Colony category.)
