Marriage Announcement

In the "Old Marietta Papers" section of the Marietta Register, published, 13 May 1864 appears the marriage announcement for James Stanley, of Salem and Grace Racer of Marietta. The date of marriage is listed as 20 Apr 1837.

1850 United States Census, Washington County

James is supporting his family with farming and owns real estate valued at $2000. Thomas Lascomb is listed as a laborer. He could be a member of the family, but right now it's not clear.

Notification of Death

In the Marietta Daily Leader, Thurs, 4 Feb 1897 edition was published an article about Grace Stanley's death. She was visiting her son, Charles Stanley, at his home on Third Street in Marietta when she became ill. She never recovered well enough to return to her home in Lower Salem. The article clearly states she was a widow at the time she passed away on 3 Feb 1897 which seems to be in error as her husband is found to have applied for a marriage license after her death. Her remains were to be removed to Lower Salem for burial.
