Biography

Birth

George Radford was the son of Bruen Radford (1645 - 1687) and was born in 1665 Henrico County, Colony of Virginia.[citation needed]

Marriage

George Radford married Ann (___), who survived him and was named as one of the administrators of his estate after his will was probated in April 1746.[1]

She was reportedly Ann Massey, and they reportedly married in 1694.[citation needed]

Will

George was living in Essex County, South Farnham Parish, when he made his will on 4 February 1739[/40?].[2] In this will, he names the following people:

  • son John Bradford
  • daughter Ann, the wife of Charles Burnett
  • loving wife Ann
  • grandson Jonathan Jones Bradford
  • daughter Elizabeth Bradford (apparently not married and no living heirs in 1739)
  • daughter Mary the wife of Andrew [Evat(?)]

This will was proved in Essex County, Virginia, on 15 April 1746.[2]

Death

George Radford died before 15 April 1746 when his will was probated in Essex County, Colony of Virginia.[2]

The following transcription of his will appears on his Find A Grave memorial:[4]

Married 1694 “IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. This fourth day of February One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty Nine I George Radford of the County of Efsex and Paris of South Farnham being weak of body but of perfect sense and memory—thanks be given to almighty God for the same and calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say FIRST & principally I render my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it hopeing to receive Perfect remifsion and forgivenefs of all my sins by the merits of thy blefsed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and A joyfull Resurrection with ____ at the last day and my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as touching such temporal estate as it hath pleased almighty God to bestow upon me I give and bequeath the same as follows. Imprimis I give and bequeath to my son John Radford one shilling ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann the wife of Charles Burnett one shilling ITEM I lend all my estate real and personal of Nature & kind is whatsoever to my Loving wife Ann Radford to give upon and act and do as she shall think proper ITEM This my will and desire that after my wife decease my grandson Jonathan Jones Radford have my gun, one cow and calf, and a sow and pigs ITEM. My will and devine is that after my wife decease my daughter Elizabeth Radford may have all my land to her and her heirs lawfully begotten forever but in case my daughter Elizabeth should die without such lawfull heirs then my land to go to my grandson Jonathan Jones Radford and his heirs lawfully begotten forever ITEM That all the rest of my estate of what nature and kind soever that is not before willed away my desire is after my wife’s decease the same may be equally divided between my two daughters Mary the wife of Andrew Evat and Elizabeth Radford to them and their heirs forever LASTLY I hereby constitute and appoint my Loving wife Anne Radford my full and whole executor of this my last will and testament revoking disannulling and making void all former or other wills – and bequests by me heretofore made and appointing this to be my last will and testament in manner and form aforesaid IN WITNEFS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date aforementioned. Signed Sealed & Published in the presence of Thomas Barker, Ann A Barker, Jacob Shearwood. At A Court held for Efsex County at Tappahannoch on the 15th day of April Anno Domin. 1746. This Last will and Testament of George Radford Deceased being Presented into Court by Ann Radford the Executrix therein named who made oath thereto and also being duly proved by the oath of all the witnefses thereto now admitted to Record and a Certificate was granted to the said Ann for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. Removed previous comment when I realized the problem was duplicate Ann Masseys and that one of them was set as George's mother.
