Biography

This profile is part of the Ragsdale Name Study.

John D. Ragsdale, Sr. (1699-1793) married possibly a Mary Jefferson (aunt of the future president). Or... John's wife was Mary FIELD.

John was the son of Godfrey Ragsdale b: BEF 1644 in Old Town, Henrico Co., Virginia and Rachel Rowlett b: ABT 1650 in Henrico Coounty, Virginia

Problem: John does NOT appear in the 1697 Will of Godfrey Ragsdale. The will was written 1697 and then probated in 1703. Maybe Godfrey had a son born between these two dates? If so, then Godfrey's wife Rachel must have been much younger than Godfrey to have born a child in 1699.

Married: BEF 1736

Children:

  1. William Ragsdale b: ABT 1738 in prob. Amelia Co., Virginia
  2. Lucy Ragsdale b: 30 SEP 1744 in Virginia
  3. Peter Ragsdale b: ABT 1746 in Virginia
  4. James Ragsdale b: ABT 1748 in Virginia
  5. John Ragsdale b: ABT 1752 in Amelia Co., Virginia
  6. Drury Ragsdale b: 1754 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia
  7. Samuel Ragsdale b: ABT 1756 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia
