Biography

Ellen Augusta Ramsay was born in 1858^[1] in Cheltenham, England to Alexander Ramsay III & Ellen Matilda Entwistle Ramsay. When Ellen was twelve years old she appeared in the Cheltenham census with her father Alexander and the five servants in the household (Henry, Emma, Ann, Emily, and Alice).^[2] Her mother Ellen was living in Beaminster, England.^[3] Ten years later Ellen was living at 3 Montpellier Parade, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire with brother Alexander E. RAMSEY (44), sisiter-in-law Caroline C. RAMSEY (38), Neices & nephews Nellie A. (16), Herbert (13), Nora (12), Arthur (10), Flossie (6).^[4]

Ellen married Henry De Sylly Hamilton Browne in Kensington when she was twenty-six.^[5] By 1901 she was living in Ireland with her husband Ernest Browne.^[6]

Ellen Augusta died on June 22nd 1929 in Cheltenham.^[7] Her estate probate was filed by Ernest De Sylly Hamilton Browne, esquire.^[8] Ellen was laid to rest on the 25th of June 1929 at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. ^[9]

The free Ancestry site doesn't show the 1851 census referenced below - from the Australian Ancestry (paid) site. The person that researched it did put text at the end of the source to explain the record.

The paid US Ancestry site shows Ellen Augusta Ramsay was baptised 10 Dec 1858 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. Her parents are listed as Alexander Ramsay & Ellen Matilda Ramsay. I changed her birth year from 1859 to 1858 to reflect the baptism record.^[10]
