Biography

This profile is part of the Ranck Name Study.

Note: Should not be confused with Johnathon Ranck (his younger brother).[1]

John was born in 1784 and married Nancy Luther.[2]

The couple had seven children:[2]

i. Elizabeth
ii. Mary
iii. Barbara
iv. Jesse
v. Urbanus
vi. Rosanna (Ranck) Marshal
vii. Luther

John is found, living next door to his brother Johnathon in White Deer Township, Union County Pennsylvania on the 1840 census.[3]

In 1870 he is found on the census, age 86, with Barbara Ranck, 70, most likely a second wife.[4]

His death date and location have not yet been determined.

Research Notes

Date conflict between Barbara Mattis (mother) and this profile; likely one of the dates is wrong.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
