This is from a book about the Rand family, primarily it talks about Lazarus son, William but it has a bit of history regarding LAZARUS AND Betzy. I don’t have the title, only a few pages were given to me.
When Lydia Cummings was 92 years of age, in 1848, said that Lazarus lived near her about a mile in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, during the Revolution and that he served with his brothers, James and Micah as well as with Thomas Cummings. She also indicated that Lazarus had a large family. This offers yet an other location as to where Lazarus is though to have lived. Besides Falmouth, Gotham, (perhaps Windham) Scarborough, Poland or Minot and Woodstock; we can add now Cape Elizabeth. For the 1798 he went to Poland, Maine, near the Minot town line. He is found there for the 1800 federal census. Lazarus owned lot #27 in the second division of land in Poland and he divided it with Isaac Knight on April 7, 1800. In 1806, he sold the lot to William Campbell and at this time he probably went to Woodstock, Maine. Some records suggest his son William was born in 1800 at Paris rather than Poland, perhaps Lazarus and Elizabeth were on the way towards Woodstock in 1800. He was at least in Woodstock by 1814. Woodstock residents asked to be incorporated as Sparta, Maine, in 1814.Lazarus was among the elected surveyors of road in Woodstock after a town meeting., Lazarus does not appear in the federal 1810 census for Maine so it is suspected he was in the deep woods around Woodstock and was not located. An othe option was that he was living in someone else’s household, e.g. the Lunt family in Woodstock might be an option, if his sister had married not this family. Lazarus died in 1816, leaving a widow and several children. Although he may have died in Minot on March 3 1816, he more likely die in Woodstock. It is possible that he was I’ll or injured n Woodstock and was returned to Minot for care where he die. It is mentioned that Lazarus had many children some point thirteen to seventeen.
