Research
Note that this page appears to conflate 2 different John Rankins. John Rankin, the son of Thomas Rankin and Isabel Clendenin married Jane "Jennet" Waugh and they moved to Blount County, Tennessee. John died there on 8 APRIL 1829 and was still married to Jane at the time, who survived him and lived until 1840. John's will can be found online[10] and refers to "beloved wife Jenney Rankin ... daughter Isabel Frow ... son John Rankin ... daughter Martha Wear ... daughter Polly Rankin ... daughter Jainey Duncan ... son Samuel M Rankin ... grand daughter Misa"
I have more records and will update this bio and sources when I get a chance. Jeff Jones.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
