Biography

Dust_Bowl Guymon_Oklahoma

Benjamin was born in 1877 in Gallatin, Missouri. When 17, he stopped in Colorado as a miner, [1] He most likely cut down trees in Washington state for the railroads. Since he was listed on the 1900 census as bolt cutter, sometimes trees were called bolts. He met his wife Charlotte Seal in Lyman, WA, they were on the same 1900 census page. She was staying with her sister Celia Seal Iverson and John C Iverson. On the 1900 census, there is an error for Charlotte being listed as an infant. So far there has not been a Charlotte Iverson. Shortly after the census they were married on 14 Nov 1900 in Skagit County, WA. Benjamin took his bride home to Missouri to meet his family. By 1901 they were in Grant County, Oklahoma where Benjamin raised cattle, It was 30 miles from where his son Buck's future in laws lived at the same time. Most likely there were beef deliveries to the David Schmidt store. By 1905 Ben and his parents moved to Texas County, OK where they lived the 1930s. Ben was the sheriff for Texas County, Oklahoma. In 1928 Ben was postmaster for Guymon, Ok and in 1937 for Nevada state, most likely on their journey to the west. He was proud to be a father and a grandfather. In 1938, he sent a letter to his son's in laws, requesting the celebration of their new grandson to be held after he returned from out of town. He was impatient with the mail being slow and mentioned, he might have to take care of it himself to speed it up. He and Charlotte died a month apart in 1950, in California.
