First wife of Moses Lay Sr. [1]
Jane Reagan Lay died November 12, 1854 and is buried within Old Zion Cemetery, Pope County, Illinois. [2] Note: the Find A Grave birth date is incorrect - per Jane's step grndson.
Moses Lay married Jane in 1833. She was the daughter of Michael Reagan, a Revolutionary War soldier. At the time of their marriage, Moses' parents gave them a farm of 125 acres in Pulaski County, KY. After one year of marriage Moses decided to move on to new territory and new opportunities so he sold his land to his Uncle Landy Newell (his mothers brother), and in 1834 moved his wife, Jane, and young son, Ephraim, from Somerset, KY on a flatboat down the Cumberland River to Carthage, Smith County, TN, where they lived for 17 years.
