Biography

Charles Reagan was born circa 1736, in Orange county, Virginia. During the American Revolutionary War, Charles and his wife, Elizabeth, were living in Shenandoah county, Virginia, (see researchers notes) where he enlisted in the Shenandoah county Militia. Charles was an Ensign in the military, a tax collector in 1779 and took the Oath of Fidelity in 1782. [1]

Charles Reagan is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor#A093902. DAR records indicate that he died in September, 1815, in Blount county, Tennessee. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his sons, Ahimaaz Reagan, who married Rebecca Black; William Reagan, who married Leah Leath; and John Reagon (wife's name not listed); and of his daughter Rebecca Reagan, who married James Berry. Will of Charles Reagan

Blount Co Tenn 25 Sept 1815 The last will and testament of Charles Reagan, dec'd, or a paper purporting to be the last will and testament of the said Charles Reagan dec'd was offered for probate by John Reagan and Ahimaes Reagan the named executors therein whereupon on motion of Thomas Hardin and Sarah his wife, Hugh Cochran and Peggy his wife, James Berry and Rebecca his wife by John Lowry their attorney who oppose the probate of said will, it is ordered that a jury be empaneled at this term to find whether said paper be the last will and testament of said Charles Reagan dec'd or not. 29 Dec 1815 a jury found that the will was authentic. Cochran is also spelled Cochrane.

Researchers Notes

Shenandoah County was formed in 1772 from Frederick County, and was originally named Dunmore County in honor of Governor Dunmore. In 1778 the name was changed to Shenandoah after the Shenandoah River, an Indian name meaning "Daughter of the Stars."
