A family story about Theodore is that he told his folks one morning that he wanted to pay a visit to the Carter’s to visit Laura Josephine, and he did. The Real family and Carter family had known each other for some time. The two families had moved from Arkansas to Texas and back to Arkansas together and had spent several years living near each other in Texas. Theodore and Laura were both born in Texas and they only lived a couple of miles apart in Arkansas. When he got there the whole family was happy to greet him. He and Laura were sitting on a swing visiting. The wind was blowing so hard they had to write notes back and forth to communicate. He finally wrote a note asking her if she would marry him. She didn’t take time to write a note back, she jumped off the swing, jumping up and down in front of him throwing her arms wildly as she bounced her head up and down, saying yes.

On his way home he met his dad plowing in the field and told him that Laura had agreed to marry him. His dad told him, son, here you take these reins and I will go into town and get the paperwork done for you.

Another short story about Theodore Pitts Real (or is this about his Dad, George).

It seems that one evening T. P. showed up at his folks place complaining that his wife Laura did not give him any time, respect or sympathy anymore, that all of her time was spent taking care of the kids and she wouldn't take out any time for him. His dad, George, listened to him, comforted him, and told him to sit a spell and relax, that his Mom was fixing up some supper, so go wash up and get ready to eat. He did and enjoyed a nice dinner which his Mom had made for him. After supper ole George and T. P. went out on the porch and sat down. George then asked him if he gotten enough to eat and was he feeling any better, to which T. P. acknowledged that he did feel much better now. His Dad then supposedly said, all right then son, let me explain something. You gave Laura those kids which she spends so much time caring for, and they are yours too. Now get yourself up, get home to Laura and the kids, quit whining, and help her take care of them, then she will have some time for you too.
