The United States Biographical Dictionary and Portrait Gallery of Eminent and Self-Made Men, Missouri Volume" (Vol 1-4), United States Biorgaphical Publishing Company, 1878. Page 221/222. Rev. Jeremiah Farmer, page 222 ..."January 1, 1833, he was married to Eliza Bailey, who was born January 6, 1813. She was the daughter of James Bailey, granddaughter of David Bailey. Her mother was Mary Rector, daughter of Cumberland Rector; granddaughter of John Rector.".[1]

Note

Still looking for proof that Charles is Cumberland's father (as well as his mother.) There is only one article that states John may be his father (see daughter Mary Rector-Baily's profile), but the general consensus is that Charles is the father since they both died in TN.

1798 When son Landon was born, Rhea, Meigs, and most of Roane Counties were still Indian Lands. The northern half of Roane County was part of Knox County, formed in 1792.

1802 According to 1802 Roane County, TN tax lists, Cumberland Rector was there as early as 1802 in Capt. Richard Oliver's Company.

1805 Census: 1805 Roane County, Tn59.

1807 Rhea County was formed.

1812 From Enlisted Men, War of 1812" Rector, Cumberland, Pvt, Col Jno Brown, Capt Jas Preston, E TN Mil Inf.

1800s Page 148, Tow String Valley: "In the early 1800's, part of the valley was owned by Cumberland Rector.".

1816 From Rhea County Deed Books A,B,C,D,E "34 (E-35)(9 Nov 1812)(Registered 2 Aug 1816). Deed of Conveyance, Richard G Waterhouse to Cumberland Rector of Roane Co for 0, 500 acres on Whites Creek (part of 19,000-acre N C Grant no 278). Beginning on Robert Hannah's corner, etc. Witnesses: James Preston, John Jackson, and George Rogers.".

1843 July 1, 1843 Cumberland Rector had one child in school in Civil Dist 2, Rhea County, Tn. at 69 yrs.

1845 CC-E:320 & WB-B:254 5 Mar 1849-- Will of Cumberland Rector, decd, proved by Thos J Gillespie and Rector Preston, subscribing witnesses. Hezekiah McPherson, Exr. Will dated 22 Oct 1845 . . . to my wife, Sarah, all the property I am possessed of at my death during her life and at her death to be equally divided between my children. I further give to my wife all the property she had at the time of ower mariage and all that she may have to dispose of as she may wish . . . nominate and appoint Hezekiah McPherson my Exr . . . Signed by X in presence of T J Gillespie and Rector Preston.

1846 Aug 1, 1846 Cumberland Rector had one child in school in Civil Dist 2, Rhea County, Tn. at 72 yrs School children are over 6 under 21. (Who would this child be?).

1848 From "County Court Minutes Mar 1844-Dec1852, Rhea County, TN" April 1848 term: "(p. 253) State VS Hezekiah Hail and Cumberland Rector. Indictment for unlawful gaming [sic]; witness for the State: James I Cash (cost .12 1/2).".

1849 March 1849 term: "(p. 320) The last Will and Testament of Cumberland Rector was produced: proven by oaths of Thomas J. Gillespie and Rector Preston, subscribing witnesses. Hezekiah McPherson, the Executor, entered into bond for 00 with Rector Preston and Thomas J. Gillespie, his securities.".

1849 April 1849 term: "(p. 323) Charles Rector overseer of the road in place of Shilo Ormes.".

1850 September 1850 term: "(p. 398) H. McPherson, Exr. of last Will and Testament of Cumberland Rector, returned an inventory of said estate.".

1850 October 1850 term: "(p. 399) H. Mcpherson, Exr. of last Will and Testament of Cumberland Rector, returned an inventory and account of sale of said estate.". Sep 1850-- Inventory and account of sales of personal estate by Exr. Memorandom of property sold on 24 Mar 1849 to Wm McPherson (mare and colt), and Sarah Rector (sorrel colt); also .75 on hand. Total .25. Oct 1850-- Purchasers on 16 Sep 1850: T J Gillespie, Thos Breeden, J P Roddy, Wm Snelson, Tensley Rodes, Landon Rector, Andrew McCaleb, David Hoyal, F Bolinger, Sterling Holloway, Robt O Hazard, Mary Richye, M Clack, A Farmer, F Brady, Jas Smith, And Hembree, A Davenport, Wm Fullington, Barton McPherson. Sep 1851-- Settlement with Exr: chargeable with 1.70 1/2 by sale on 24 Mar 1849 and on 16 Sep 1850; entitled to credits of .52.".

1850 Cumberland Rector is liste in the Mortality Schedule for Rhea County, TN. Cause of death: Gravel (Gravel: a disease characterised by small stones which are formed in the kidneys, passed along the ureters to the bladder, and expelled with the urine. See also stranguary. 1850 Census Rhea County, TN Sarah Rector, 60, b. VA, is head of household with Malissa Boxley, 21, living with her. They are living next door to Hesekiah McPhearson's family and on the other side of them is the Burrell Boxley family.

1860 Sarah Rector, (Jesse's wife), 57, b. TN, is living with Jacob M. Hamilton 30, who married Martha J. Rector, 23, b. 1837, on Jun 11, 1855 (Daughter of Jesse & Sarah Rector).

1870 Louisa E. Rector, 28, and Salina (Soly?) E. Rector, 22, are living with Jacob M. Hamilton and Sarah is not found. (Louisa and Soly are daughters of Jesse Rector).

Kindrick Cemetery, New Hope, Roane Co, TN [2]

Cumberland was born about 1770. He passed away about 1849.
