Comment from Ray Conn-Just want to let you know that my 5th Gt Grandfather was the Black Slave of Sir Francis Sykes. His name was Thomas Radakisson Born 1750 nr Calcutta West Bengal . Died 1809 in Basildon Berkshire.National Heritage of Gt Britain are working on the life of Thomas and got in touch with me. Bit of a shock!! Been looking at my hands all day and can't see it. He was very well educated and looked after by Sykes who paid him 7/- a week for life and a mourning ring. NH say he must have been much favoured as he had no job title. He allowed to be buried next to his Master Sir Francis Sykes of the East India Company. His Granddaughter Emma went to NZ with my 3 x Gt Grandfather Charles John Bartlett who was born in Bristol in 1822. Daily Mail mentioned Thomas recently in a BLM article. Wedding banns of my 5 x Gt Grandparents Thomas Radakissen and Mary Wernum. Both names are spelt wrong. Thomas changes his name to Redkison as Radakisson was his Slave name. His wife Mary often known as Mary Vernon. Vernon was a mistake by the church as I have a document with the name Wernum. They are both buried near the grave of Jethro Tull.

Thomas was a School Master in Chelsea.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
