Biography

A marriage record exists for a Benjamin Reed who married Charity Vaughan on 17 December 1792 in Warren County, North Carolina. Whether this is our Benjamin is unknown as we have no other record of his wife or record of a relationship with the Vaughans of Warren County.

Likewise, researchers have attached a variety of parents to Benjamin over the years. Few if any of these cite sources, but researcher Wanda Malone Buckner is the exception in that she has followed land records to make a case for Benjamin being part of the Perquiman County, North Carolina, Reeds. (This case needs to be outlined here.)

Benjamin being the father of Nancy, Daniel, and James Reed of northwestern Arkansas comes from a sketch of son-in-law James Lewis on page 1178 of History of Washington County, Arkansas, as follows: "In Morgan County he met Nancy Reed, the daughter of Revolutionary soldier Benjamin Reed who had received a land grant in Morgan County in 1824. [...] Traveling by wagon train, the company consisted of James Lewis and wife Nancy and their six children [...], Ben Reed and his son James and..."

(Note that this is a modern biography submitted by a 20th-century researcher, so caveats apply.)

That said, James Reed was appointed the administrator of Benjamin Reed's estate in Washington County.
