Biography

Joseph Reed was born in Lexington, Massachusetts on May 20, 1739 and christened on June 21st of that year. [1]

On December 22, 1761 Joseph Reed "of Rutland" married Elizabeth Blood "of Concord" in Concord, Massachusetts [2][3]

Joseph and Elizabeth lived in Rutland, which later became Barre. Their children include: [4]

  • Joseph b. 1 Sep 1763
  • Joshua b. 11 Nov 1765
  • Nathan b. 5 Mar 1768
  • Anna b. 21 Mar 1770
  • Danforth b. 9 Jul 1772
  • Levi b. 1775

Joseph later moved his family to Sterling, Massachusetts. Several of his children were residents of Sterling when they married. It is also the place of his death and where his will was probated.

Joseph, "of Sterling", died early 1794. His widow, Elizabeth and son Joseph posted a bond of 6,000 pounds on March 27, 1794 as administrators of his estate, promising to submit an inventory of "the Goods, Chattels, Rights and Credits of the said deceased" by June 27. [5]
