Research Notes

FSID: LCY3-5MB

There are two Caspar Rieths who were contemporaries. The Caspar (1738-1804) represented by this profile was a son of Caspar Rieth, Sr.; he married Elizabeth Schaeffer (born 1743). He died in Tulpehocken Township, Berks, PA. The other Caspar Rieth (1733-1802), was a son of Johann George. On 12 Aug 1754 this Caspar married Anna Schaefer (~1735- ), as recorded by Pastor Stoever. He is buried buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery (AKA Herrold Family Cemetery) located in Port Trevorton, Snyder, PA. There currently exists a Find A Grave: Memorial #12552063 that has conflated the two Caspars. Some of the information previously in the biography of this profile has been transferred to the other Caspar.

Daughter Anna Margaretha Rieth married Jacob Lauks 11 Apr 1786 at Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg, Marion Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Currently on Wikitree, there is a profile for a Jacob Lauks from York, Pennsylvania (married Margaret Ann Read) that is probably mis assigned/conflated.

The profile of John C. Reed born in Havre de Grace Maryland (Reed-5425) is not a child of these parents as is currently shown on Wikitree.

Rieth-143 and Reed-4715 appear to represent the same person because: All the facts relating to both men are the same. I am new to Wikitree and I made a mistake just now in adding Rieth-143 when there was already a profile for him at Reed-4715.

The various sources have some small differences in birth and death year, but they all refer to the same person (same wife, same parents), His baptismal record says 1738, his biography says abt 1731, his Find-A-Grave says 1729.
