Jack Reeves is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.
John Edward Reeves was the eldest son of John Reeves and Eliza Hall. He was born on July 28, 1883.[1]
Although he was named John Edward after his father he was always known as Jack. He was listed with his parents and three brothers in the 1891 census, his older sister was staying with their grandparents.[2]
In the 1901 census Jack's occupation was a plater at Ironworks.[3]
On April 9, 1907 Jack married Hannah Hemmings [4] and they had two daughters and one son. The 1911 census shows them with their eldest daughter living in Canning Town.[5]
The 1911 census gives Jack's occupation as Waterman and Lighterman. He spent most of his life as a Dock Worker and did not retire from this work until he was 78. Watermen take passengers across and along city rivers and estuaries. Lightermen were river workers who transferred goods between ships and quays, in flat-bottomed barges called lighters in the Port of London. (See background image)
In 1967 Jack and Hannah celebrated their Diamond Wedding.

Jack died on July 20, 1977[6] His funeral service was held at the East London Cemetery.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jack by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jack:
I don't know who Hannah was, but she might be a family member.
