Biography

Volga German
Elisabeth (Reifschneider) Eberhard was a Volga German.
Elisabeth (Reifschneider) Eberhard has German Roots.

Family #40 in the 1798 Grimm census.

According to the 1798 census, Elisabeth Reifschneider was originally from Kutter, born in 1775. She was probably the daughter of one of these three couples:

  • Andreas Reifschneider, born 1736, and his wife Elisabeth Loos, born 1745
  • Johannes Reifschneider, born 1744, and his wife Anna Katharina Loos, born 1741
  • Melchior Reifschneider, born 1745, and his wife Anna Maria Siegward, born 1757

To Do: Find copy of 1775 Kutter census and see if Elisabeth is listed with one of the Reifenschneider families. She may have been born after the census was taken, so she might not be listed at all. Also, many of the ages adults gave to census takers were off, either due to forgetfulness, rounding their birth year to a different year, or because they simply didn't know. Parents tended to be more exact and correct when giving the ages of their children because, usually, not much time had passed since the children were born. The further away from the actual birth year, the more likely the year will be off.

1798 Grimm Census [1]

Family # 40
Head of the Household Wilhelm Eberhard, age 27
Wife Elisabeth Reifschneider Eberhard, age 23, from Kutter
Child #1 Barbara Eberhard, age 3
Child #2 Christina Eberhard, age 1
Stepfather Christian Seifert, age 42
Stepmother Elisabeth Knorr Seifert, age 26, from Schuck
Child #3 Elisabeth Seifert, age 1, stepsister

Elisabeth was probably Wilhelm Eberhardt's first wife. Daughters Barbara and Christina were hers. She died around 1803. Soon after that her widower married an unknown second wife. Son Tobias belonged to this unknown woman and Wilhelm. This second wife passed away by 1810 and Wilhelm remarried for a third time Susanna Margaretha Ring, a widow from Dietel.

By the 1834 cenus, Elisabeth was no longer living, and her daughters were married, living in other families.
