George, son of Thomas Renick and Mary Ann or Katherine, was born on January 6, 1736, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.[1] He died at the age of 42 after March 16, 1778 (when he wrote his will) and before 14 Apr 1778 (when the will was presented in court) in Hampshire County, West Virginia.[2]
He married Mary WELTON (b. c1730), daughter of John Welton, in 1756 at Virginia. They had at least three children specifically named twice in George's will. Children of George Renick and Mary Welton (dates uncertain) are possibly:[3]
William - b. c1760; d. 27 Jan 1850; m. Elizabeth WELTON
Amelia 'Millia' - b. 1764; d. 1785
Jane 'Jenny' - b. 1767; d. 1812; m. John Deakins LUCAS
Betty 'Bettie' - b. 1769
George - b. 6 Oct 1771; d. 21 Feb 1839; m1. Judith WESTFALL; ?m2 Mary MAXWELL
His will dated 16 Mar 1778 and proved 14 Apr 1778 at Hampshire County, VA, mentioned his loving wife Mary, three children: William, Millia, and Jenny, and George (no relationship or surname). Executors were wife Mary, Job Welton and William Rennick. It specified that "the place where I now dwell shall be divided among my three children Viz: William, Millia, & Jenny" and left £50 to George whose surname and relationship were not given. Executors were wife Mary, Job Welton and William Rennick.[2] Why didn't George's will call George or Betty his children?
11 May 1763 - Land sale in Hampshire Co VA by George Renick, eldest son and heir of Thomas Renick dec'd.[3]
11 Nov 1766 - Land sale by George Renick and wife Mary to Felix Seymour; land granted to Mary Welton daughter of John Welton, now wife of said Renick.[3]
28 Aug 1784 - Dower assignment by George's widow Mary now wife of William Jenny, formerly Mary Rennick.[3]
George enlisted on 14 Feb 1776 for duty in the Revolutionary War, but deserted a month later on 14 Mar 1776.[4]
Research Notes
We find much confusion about the early Renick families of Pennsylvania and Virginia. The parents of this George and his siblings are often said to be William and Ann (Hamilton) Renick, but the general consensus now is that George was son of Thomas2 (George1).[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
Rennick-72 and Rennick-3 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same dates, places, father, wife and children. Rennick-151 and Rennick-72 have been merged and the resulting profile should be merged with Rennick-3.
Not much to go by, but they have a different yob and died in different places. The George who died in 1778 in Hardy Co VA named children William, Millia (Amelia) and Jenny in his will.
Renick-151 and Rennick-72 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same yob, dod, wife, and father named Thomas. The correct father should Thomas2 (George1). Please merge. The resulting profile should be merged with Rennick-3.
Rennick-72 and Rennick-3 appear to represent the same person because: The birth years and locations and death years and locations are identical as are the spouses and offspring.
