Biography

Angeline was born on March 4, 1824 in Kentucky. She is the daughter of Robert Rhodes and Elizabeth Cissell.[1]

Angeline was married on November 30, 1843, to Nathaniel Ervin Tandy, the son of Smyth Tandy.

There is no record I can find to show her birth to Robert and Elizabeth, and as such, she is missed by many who research the family. It is only when the documents in a Civil War pension case involving her brother Hillary Rhodes are examined that it becomes clear which Rhodes family she belongs to.

It is an affidavit filed by her son Charles Mathew Tandy on December 19, 1907, in the pension case of Rebecca Hamilton (No. 17086) that clarifies the relationships.[2]

Hillery Rhodes was an uncle of mine. My mother was Angeline Rhodes and my father Nathanial Tanday are both dead. My uncle was born and reared here."

Charles goes on to explain some of the other relationships within the family but the key is his description of his mother and his father. A similar affidavit was filed by Isaac Sapp, the son of Rebecca Lake Sapp Rhodes Hamilton.

Angeline passed away on 2 September 1891, probably in Taylor County, Kentucky. She is buried in St. Matthews Cemetery, Marion County, Kentucky. A memorial page can be found on Find A Grave.
