Biography

John was born before 1695, probably in St. Mary's County, Maryland. He is believed to be the won of Abraham Rhodes and his wife, Frances, although there is some dispute about this.

On September 1, 1761 John Rhodes (Rodes) wrote his will: To son Abraham Rodes, my dwelling plantation whereon I live, 115 a., beginning at first boundary of tract called Tesberry Plains.' To son John Rodes, remainder of tract. If John dies without heirs then to sons Nicholas and Ignatius Rodes. To son Barnaby Rodes, right to tract in Calvert Co. called Sharedons Reserve. To wife Eleanor Rodes, use of Negro man John, then at her death, to son Abraham Rodes. To son Mark Rodes, 12 pence. To dau. Elizabeth Metchel, 12 pence. To son Jeremiah Rodes, 12 pence. To son Michael Rodes, 1000 lbs. of tobacco. If wife married then personal estate to be given to 4 sons: Michael, Basil, Nicholas and Ignatius Rodes. Son Abraham Rodes, ex. Wit: Henry Jenkins, William Jenkins, Elizabeth Jenkins. 33. 30
