Alexandre Richard was born in about 1668 in Port-Royal. He was the son of Michel Richard and Madeleine Blanchard. He was just 3 years old on the first census in 1671[1] and again in 1678[2], confirming the 1668/9 birth year.
In 1686, at Port Royal, Alexandre, aged 17, was living with his father, Michel RICHARD, aged 56, and his stepmother, Jeanne BABIN, aged 18. Also living with him were four siblings from his father's first marriage to Magdeleine [sic] BLANCHARD: Martin, aged 19, Marie [recte Marie Josephe], aged 12, Cecille [sic], aged 10 and Marguerite, aged 7. The 5 other siblings (Rene, Pierre, Catherine, Anne and Magdeleine [recte Madeleine Elizabeth]) from his father's first marriage who are married and unnamed in the census are recorded elsewhere in the 1686 census with their spouses. The youngest in the family was his half-brother Michel age 2 (the son of his father and Jeanne BABIN). The family owned 2 guns, 12 arpents of cultivable land with 16 cattle, 30 sheep and 8 hogs.[3]
Alexandre (21) married Isabelle Petitpas (19) (born about 1670 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Claude Petitpas and Catherine Bugaret) in 1690 in Port Royal, Acadie. She had been married before, widow of Olivier Boudrot.[4]Their children were:
By 1693, they were living together with her son and their daughter, aged 2.[5]
His final accounting was in 1707 at Port Royal, with quite a young family and a sizeable farm.[6]
He died on October 4, 1709, in Port-Royal.[7] Alexandre was buried in Garrison Graveyard in Annapolis Royal, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

In the 1686 census at Port Royal, Madeleine was listed as Magdelaine, Marie Josephe was listed as just Marie, and Cecile was listed as Cecille.
