According to the information that I found, Stephen Richardson was said to have been an English soldier. He went to Ireland where he was the head gardener on the Montgomery Estate where he met his future wife. Many people have tried to find the ancestors of Stephen and Lady Jane, but no success. They had eight children.

James Richardson (son of Stephen Richardson and Jane Montgomery, who emigrated from Londonderry, Ireland, to Gloucester, Massachusetts), wife Rachel Gott, and their then five children (Rachel, James Jr., Daniel, Jane, and Mary) moved from Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Mount Desert Island between 16 January 1761 (the birthdate of daughter Mary, who was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts) and 16 August 1763 (the birthdate of son George, who was born in Mount Desert). Two of James's brothers (Stephen and Thomas) came to Mount Desert at the same time or very shortly afterward. By the first decennial census, in 1790, there were eight Richardson households in what was then the town of Mount Desert, which today includes the towns of Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, and Tremont.
