Note:

Some things for Riddle families to look into or contact me, and I'll make copies of what I have. (T.C. Justine Baker): 1767 Taxlist in Pittsylvania Co,, VA on list with son William. Next to his name is the word "Indian". Court records from 1757-1763, Orange Co., NC repeatedly court for failutre to pay required taxes. 1745 Tax list Orange Co, NC he and wife Mary listed as "mulatto" which required tax on her, as well. A 1740 tax roll lists father, Moses Riddle as Cherokee (unconfirmed). Closely associated with Col. James Robers and his son James Roberts. Col. James Roberts a tory and loyal to British recruited me on the New River in VA and NC summer of 1776 to join with the Cherokee against "land grabbing patriots". William Riddle's estate and story was to be part of a book, Hawkins County by Jack Goins, still being written in 1996. William's middle name was Powell. Montgomery Co, VA 22nd of June 1784 is his will. A daughter of Henry & Happy Riddle Fischer is noted in the Scott County Cemetery book as being over 6 feet tall and a full blood Indian. Another reference to someone being 7 feet tall. (My note: This may be accurate or not, it could be relevant to burial mound findings. It could actually be, I knew people over 7 feet tall and believe a cousin was also. Not sure fascination with height back then, likely the burial mound findings though.) In addition, an email by Lisa Riddle in 2002 states: "Johnson Rake Riddle is the son of John Riddle and Sara (Sary Johnson) was 100 Cherokee Indian he escaped the trail of tears, William Riddle (the tori) was Cherokee Indian...." A few refer to the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit. In addition, my papers have a Moses Riddle, Dawes Choctaw Enrollment Card # 5584 but likely not same as William's parent. Also a William Riddle in Oklahoma (Indian Territory). - end of insert by myself, T.C. Justine Baker email for copies and I'll scan it all.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-520635 & https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Redley-1 Margaret , possible same Margaret and Edward. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Buss-278 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bass-445 Sources used on their pages are the same. I don't see a Moses listed as a child for the couple. Her last name has been referred to as Lovewell and Rainwater. What is interesting is visit Edward's page and the notes and sources being quite similar to what I uploaded here for this couple. An anyone that descends from this line repeatedly heard stories of "Native" plus the tax saying "Indian" on one and "Powhattan" being referenced then look up the history of the Nasemond tribe. Edward Buss possibly Edward Bass? No mention of a "moses". But that doesn't mean a definite no. There are many similarities between this couple and that one. What I'd like to see is Margaret's indentured service info to Caleb Butler and more on Edward of the early 1700s regarding the court records posted from Westmoreland County Virginia. Perhaps this "Riddle" riddle is closer to being solved? https://nativeamericanroots.wordpress.com/2015/05/22/the-nansemond-indian-bass-family-of-granville/comment-page-1/

Any idea why my DNA shows on the right as a match to everyone up until this ancestor? Despite claims of the parents having multiple children and being taken to court with charges, fines, etc. the images I posted from the Westmoreland County records only pertain to this child. Is there a record of additional children via his parents. I also added the page of the court records where Moses Riddle was bound to Caleb Butler, son of the "White woman" Margaret, until 31 yrs of age.

Mine does the same. I think it is just the amount that is left when it gets to him. Because of the mix being lessened per generation it is just not within the range that is counted.

Makes sense, seems like I had asked that regarding one of my other lines but it being father back. Been a while. Thank you for replying. I posted images/scanned & screenshots of court records for parents too. Edward Buss I think I added the most. Striking similar to Edward Bass. Not sure if same person but seems to similar to overlook and not consider. Hopefully some of the links also provided info on sources to be looked at and dissected.

I'd like to know if any of the DNA testers of Moses descendants have Indigenous Americas in their DNA? My DNA tester (Shirley) S.F. slt13721 on Ancestry, ftdna, GEDmatch is showing 1% on Ancestry. She seems to think it came from her grandmother Jennie Riddle Fellows. I have Jennie's father as Noah H Riddle and his father as Levi Bloom Riddle s/o James Riddle-1350, but on wiki, James has no son Levi, and I've not found any Levi on wiki. Since Moses is Native American, I sure I'm on the right track. This is for my grand daughters lines and Shirley is their other grandmother. Sheila Akins Thomas

Shirley's kit is also uploaded to ftdna site FF, mT and GEDmatch A897868, and her son is also 1% Indigenous American-North, David Mackey on Ancestry DNA, ftdna FF, BigY, GEDmatch A675226, that I manage. Shirley has 26 matches with Indigenous American-North on Ancestry.

Yes but my DNA results on ancestry are equivalent to my cousins and not a higher percentage. Which also is on my paternal line. Moses Riddle is direct through my maternal line.
