Biography

William Ridgley was born in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George's County, Maryland in about 1735.[1] He was the second son of Westall Ridgley and Sarah Isaac.[2] He married Mary Thrasher, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Thrasher. They had two daughters:

  1. Martha Ridgley
  2. Sarah Ridgley

William died suddenly on Dec. 8, 1775. Mary was granted letters of administration. Inventory was made by William Luckett, Jr., and James Hook and was returned on 12 May 1776, and final account was made 3 Oct 1778.[3]

After William's death Mary married John Lynch.

Maryland births and christening 1650-1995 verifies birth date and parent's names. Saint Barnabas church. [According to Stone, William's birth is in the parish register but without a date. The closes dates to his entry were 1734 and 1735.]

Maryland register of wills 1629-1999 has an inventory of his possessions. Had 3 cows and calves, 3 yearlings, 7 head of sheep and 2 lambs, one old horse and one old mare, etc. Personal property was valued at £34.16.2½[4]

William was buried in Chunn Ridgley Family cemetery in Jefferson, Frederick cemetery. The tombstone states "This stone is erected by Martha the wife of Lancelot Chunn in memory of her father William Ridgely who died Dec. 8, 1775 aged 40 years."[5]
