On May 21, 1898 Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army.[3] In 1900, Roy was in the Philippines as a solider with Co. "B", 44 U.S. Vol. Inf.[4][5][6] He said he believed he would marry a Filipino girl and stay in the archipelago.[4] He was later Corporal Redman in Ubay Bohal, Philippine Islands, Military and Naval Forces and discharged from service on June 30, 1901.[6]
Marriage
On August 6, 1907 he married Mayme Alice Clark in St Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, United States.[7] Together they have four children:
A year after their first child is born the family moved to Richland, Montana where Roy worked as a farmer and operated the Riley Ferry.
In the late 1920s his family moved from Richland, Montana to Los Angeles, California. He spent the remainder of his life living in Santa Monica.[8][9]
Death
Roy Edwin Riley died September 15, 1939 in Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles, California, United States from a heart attack.[2][6] He was buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, United States.[10][11][12]
