Biography

Birth

Elizabeth Rood was born 19 Apr 1716 in Stafford, Connecticut Colony, to parents Jonathan Rood and Marg[a]rit Rood. [Need to create profiles for them.][1]

RESEARCH NOTE REGARDING ELIZABETH'S BIRTH

  • The birth date given for Elizabeth is 19 April 1716. Her purported mother, [[Mariner-1|Mary (Mariner) Rood) died 30 December 1731. Therefore, #Mary was not Elizabeth's mother. In Stafford Vital Records is found Elizabeth Rood born 19 April 1716 - the same birth date as this profile. Elizabeth has been disconnected from Samuel and Mary (Mariner Rood) and will be connected to correct parents, Jonathan and Margarit Rood of Stafford.

Norwich Vital Records (https://archive.org/details/vitalrecordsnor01congoog) page 39 shows that J was born 9 Oct 1685, son of Thomas Rood and Hannah Bennum. The same page shows Sam'l Rood born 20 Mar 1691 - this is who the memorial shows as the father of J - son of Sam'l & Mary Mariner. I dug into this because I found a genealogy that name them as parents for Elizabeth (Rood) Daynes (born 9 Apr 1716 in Stafford) - since Mary died in 1715, she couldn't be their daughter. Stafford records had an Eliz. born that date, daughter of J and Margarit Rood, a that J, son of Thomas married Margaret in 1708.That in turn led me to the record above that shows Jonathan's birth.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

The source I found (added to sources section) for this marriage would put the location in Franklin, not Norwichtown. Is there another source? If not, any objections to changing the marriage location? [Never mind. I see Franklin was created from Norwich later]

Also, what evidence is there, that this Elizabeth Rood is the daughter of Jonathan? There is another marriage record for Elizabeth Rood to Isaac Turner Ellizabeth (Rood) Turner (1716-1737). The marriage record specifically calls her the daughter of Jonathan. See: * Marriage: "Connecticut, U.S., Marriage Index, 1620-1926" Original data: Marriage Records. Connecticut Marriages. I'll look into it. I simply adopted this profile as a descendant of Elizabeth. I've been quite busy lately so I don't know if I'll get around to it.

Thanks. Since it sounds like it might take awhile, I've added a research note to Jonathan's profile and added the other Elizabeth as an uncertain connection. I'll see if I can find anything more. Of course, only one of the profiles should have that birth date, so hopefully it will eventually be sorted out.
