Ann Jane was born in 1888 in Ballydown, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the daughter of Robert Ross and Abigail McAuley. The informant was Mary Jane Mann of Millbay, Islandmagee who was present at the birth.[1] Ann Jane was baptised on 30-Nov-1888 in 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church.[2]
In the 1901 Census she is a scholar living with her parents in Ballydown, Islandmagee.[3] In the 1911 Census she has moved with some of her older brothers and sisters to 18 Parkmount Street in the Duncairn area of North Belfast and is a school teacher.[4]
In 1919 she married a master mariner from Magheramorne, County Antrim, William John Close in 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church, County Antrim, Ireland. The witnesses were Thomas Ross and Ismay Savage.[5]
In 1921 she emigrated to the USA along with her sister Jemima and their 2 young babies. Her husband had already established a home there as a result of his seafaring exploits.
