Biography

Joseph B. Ross was born to Samuel and Margaret Baird Wasson Ross 25 Aug 1800 in Bourbon County, KY. He was the couple’s third child and third son. He was reared on the family farm and married Hannah Elizabeth Piercy, daughter of Jacob and Abby (McDowell) Piercy 25 Feb 1819. This is recorded in the Bourbon County, KY Marriage Index, Book 2, page 66. He was eighteen years old, Hannah was 24. Their first six daughters were born in Kentucky and the family moved to Putnam County, IN in 1834. Joseph purchased land immediately south of what became Cloverdale and farmed there until his death 53 years later.
