ROUNTREE - On September 9th 1918 at his late residence, Beresford Street Bayswater, Stephen Gilbert dearly beloved husband of Julia Rountree and late manager Auckland Savingsbank aged 67 years.

OBITUARY
Mr. S. G. ROUNTREE
As old and well known resident of Auckland, Mr. S. Gilbert Rountree died at his residence at Bayswater yesterday. Mr. Rountree, who was 67 years of age, came to Auckland from Ireland as a boy of ten. He was on the Thames goldflelds in the early days, and subsequently joined the staff of the Auckland Savings Bank. In 1877 he was appointed accountant, which position he held until 1912. Upon the retirement of the late Mr. Richard Cameron, Mr. Rountree was appointed manager of the bank. He retired in 1916 after 41 years' service. He was a prominent worker in various religious and philanthropic movements. He held the positions of deacon and elder of the Baptist Tabernacle and was superintendent of the Sunday School. He founded the Christian Endeavour Society and for a time was connected with the Epsom Baptist Church, Central Mission, and the Auckland Sunday School Union. Mr. Rountree is survived by Mrs. Rountree, who was a daughter of the late Mr. Robert Bentley of Devonport; and by two sons and five daughters. The sons are Mr. Harry Rountree the well known artist of London, and Mr. E. G. Rountree, of the N.Z.E.F. London section. The daughters are Mrs. A. L. Ferneyhough of Taupaki, Mrs. Samuel Barry of Auckland, Mrs. J. Mourant of Orini, Mrs. W. R. Ellingham of Auckland, and Mrs. H. L. Richards of New Plymouth. The funeral will take place at the O'Neill's Point cemetery to-morrow morning.
