John Ellis (J Ellis in passenger list) cannot have been Joshua's nephew, as he died in the same quarter John's death (age 21) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1889 in the Scarborough district. Maybe his death (overseas) was registered in Scarborough for some reason?[16] More likely 'nephew' is a mistake by the article writer for brother-in-law: John Edward Ellis (1841-1910) a fellow MP who was also anti-Boer War.
