Biography

Mary was born about 1750. She married George Simon about 1770.

George Simon made his will in Hardy County, Virginia, on 29 November 1802. In his will, he mentioned his wife Mary and his children George Simon, Christian Simon, Jacob Simon, Benjamin Simon, Elizabeth Rodabough, Catherine Rodabough, and Mary Kessell. His will was proved 11 April 1804.[1]

Mary was still living in 1809 when she was recorded on the tax list of Hardy County, Virginia, as Mary Simon, widow.[2]

Maiden Name

Mary has been shown in many trees and some publications to have been a daughter of Anthony Reager of Hampshire County, Virginia. However, there seems to be no evidence to establish this connection. In fact, records prove that Anthony Reager did not have a daughter named Mary who married George Simon.

Anthony Reager made his will in Hampshire County, Virginia, on 27 October 1775. In his will, he mentioned his three daughters but only named “Madderlin.”[3] His son John Reager made his will 2 June 1831 in Muskingum County, Ohio. He did not have any children of his own, and his estate papers establish that his sisters were Judith who married John Ulrich Spohr, Madeline who married Joseph Scott, and Barbara who married John Rohrbaugh.[4]
