Cathcart, passed away after an illness of about three months at 10 o’clock Monday evening, July 6 at her home on the McMinnville highway near Woodbury. Mrs. Cathcart was a member of one of the most prominent pioneer families of CannonCounty and was held in highest esteem by all who know her. Her deceased husband was a former circuit court clerk for CannonCounty and served for many years as secretary to the late Congressman W. C. Houston in Washington. Mrs. Cathcart was one of the leaders for community betterment and was a devoted member of the WoodburyBaptistChurch, the oldest member in point of membership, having joined during her early childhood. She was loved by young and old alike, and her influence for good will be greatly missed in this community. She was a daughter of the late Abel Rushing, one of the earliest settlers of this community. He was founder of WoodburyAcademy and made the brick for some of the oldest brick churches and residences here. During the Civil War period the family resided in the home place now occupied by Dr. J.F. Adams and family, one of the brick homes erected by Mr. Rushing. Funeral services for Mrs. Cathcart were held Tuesday at the Woodbury Baptist church at 2:30 in the afternoon with Rev. W.C. McPherson in charge. Burial was in Salem cemetery at Liberty with McMillen and Company in charge. Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Will Webb, Woodbury, and Mrs. Charles E. Groom, Auburntown, and two sons, Bascomb Cathcart, California, and Will H. Cathcart, Watertown. Among the relatives and friends visiting the bedside of Mrs. Cathcart during the few days before her death included Miss Billie Love Cathcart, of Watertown, George C. Webb, of Louisville, Kentucky; Mrs. Charlie Groom, Auburntown; Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Cathcart, Watertown; C.E. Groom, Auburntown; Will H. Cathcart; Dr. J.R. Doak and T.A.
