Biography

Isabel Ryther was the daughter of William Ryther, Knt. and Isabel Gascoigne.^[1]

She married Sir Guy Fairfax, Justice of the King's Bench, Recorder of York, Chief Justice of Lancaster, son of Richard Fairfax and Anastasia Carthorpe. They had:

• Sir William Fairfax, Justice of the Common Pleas, Recorder of York b. c 1470, died 11 May 1514.^[2]
• Thomas.
• Nicholas.
• Guy.
• Eleanor, wife of Miles Wilstrop.
• Agnes Fairfax, wife of John Waterton.
• Cecily, wife of Ralph Acclom.

Isabel Ryther died in 1498 at of Steeton Castle, Yorkshire, England and was buried with her husband in the quire of Bolton-Percy, Yorkshire.^[1]

Research Notes

Previously, this profile showed Isabel as the wife of Robert Babthorpe. However, this was the result of equating the sisters, Elizabeth and Isabel, as being one and the same. Although the names are commonly considered equivalent, in this case they are not.^[3][4][5][6]
