Arrived on "John and Lucy" 6/5/1857

Came to Australia in 1857 (13 years old) with his family as "assisted immigrants" onboard the "JOHN AND LUCY". Died from "Brights Disease" in Sydney 2 weeks before his son Walter Herbert's wedding. His body was returned home by the mail train and later buried in the Church of England cemetery in Millthorpe. He was good health and spirits when he left Millthorpe and his death was completely unexpected as the disease wasn't diagnosed till he was in Sydney to have an operation on his eyes.
