Biography

Enoch Samborn (aka Sanborn) was born in 1685, in Hampton, New Hampshire, a son of John Samborne and Judith Coffin. In 1707, Enoch went with Captain Chesly's expedition to Port Royal. Enoch was, by trade a saddler (maker of saddles for riding). Enoch lived in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, where he owned Mill in 1750. [1]

In 1709, Enoch married Elizabeth Dennett, a daughter of Alexander Dennett of Portsmouth. Children of Enoch and Elizabeth are:

  • Elizabeth Samborn, baptized 1712, died young
  • Ebenezer Samborn, born July 25, 1712
  • Judith Samborn, born December 8, 1815, married John Philbrick of Hampton Falls, son of Thomas Philbrick, on December 26, 1734
  • Moses Samborn, baptized March 1, 1717
  • John Samborn, baptized July 19, 1719
  • Elizabeth Samborn, baptized June 18, 1721, married 1) Alexander Salter of Rye, on March 27, 1740 and 2) John Damrell, on December 12, 1754
  • Enoch Samborn, baptized June 28, 1724
  • Sarah Samborn, baptized May 7, 1727

On April 1, 1736, Enoch married Mrs. Mehitable Blake Godfrey, a daughter of John Blake of Hampton and the widow of Jonathan Godfrey. Enoch and Mehitable became the parents of one son:

  • Isaac Samborn, baptized November 18, 1737, died 1756

Enoch wrote his Will on March 7, 1760: "Enoch of Hampton Falls, saddler, for the Love Good Will and Affectionwhich I have and do bear to my ward Leoveing Son John of Kingstown, Cordwainer, also for other Good Causes ... land in Hales Town my full Right in said Tract Both in the Divided and Undivided." [2]
