Biography

Third son. He is mentioned in his father's Will, proved 4th July 1558: "To either of MY SONS ANTHONY and WALTER SAVAGE a rent charge or annuity of £5 and 100 marks when they reach the age of 21. If either of them die, his share to remain to the other or to MY ELDEST SON, WILLIAM SAVAGE." Anthony's brother Walter had taken over their mother's Broadway Great Farm of 2960 acres, and initially Anthony went there with him, but later moved to Coscombe, Gloucestershire.

In the 1569 Visitations he is married to Anne, daughter of John Croker of Batsford, Gloucestershire, with issue: a son and a daughter. He married Ann Croker in 1583 in Todenham, Gloucestershire, England.[1]

I wonder if the Anthony who married Elizabeth Hall and the Anthony who married Anne Croker were different men which would account for the dating problems. I am interested in the one who had a daughter, Anne m. to Fettiplace, see below (given as son of Francis and Anne)

“Anthony Savage (d.1587) married Anne Croker, the daughter of John Croker (d.1581x3) of Batsford, Gloucestershire, and by her had a son, John Savage, who sold land to William Shakespeare of Stratford’s associate in the Globe Theatre, Henry Condell (1576?-1627), and a daughter, Anne Savage, who married Thomas Fettiplace of Fernham, Berkshire. For the will of John Croker, dated 6 June 1581 and proved 26 January 1583, see TNA PROB 11/65/36. For the sale of land to Henry Condell, see Barnard, Etwell Augustine Bracher, New Links With Shakespeare, (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1930), pp. 1-4, 10-11 at: http://books.google.ca/books?id=RgE9AAAAIAAJ&pg=PA2”
