Biography

Joseph Sawyer was born in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts on May 7,1711. He was the son of John Sawyer III and Rebecca Stanford Sawyer.[2] [3] [4] [5]

Joseph was married in Falmouth, Cumberland County, Maine, to Joanna Cobb, daughter of Ebenezer Cobb and Mary Vaughn Cobb. Joanna was a direct descendant of the Mayflower passenger John Howland through her father. [2] [3] [7]

They resided in that part of Falmouth which became Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County, where all of their children were born. [2]

Joseph Sawyer died in Cape Elizabeth March 31, 1800. He is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, in South Portland.[3] [4] [6]

Sawyer-6395 and Sawyer-50 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth and death dates and places. Joanna Cobb, spouse on -50, is the mother of Rachel, child on -6395. Children on -50 and -395 are correct per Saco Valley Settlements source, I'll add to -50. Please merge
