Joseph was the son of George Sawyer (b. 1758 NH) and Hannah Dains. Joseph married Mary Blanchard on 24 December 1815 in Lewiston, Androscoggin, Maine. They had five children. [2]
In 1850, the Sawyer family lived in Lisbon, Lincoln, Maine. The household included

Joseph Sawyer, 27 September 1791 - 14 May 1882, was born and died in Lisbon, Androscoggin, Maine. He passed away, aged 90, and is buried at Hillside Cemetery, Lisbon Falls, Maine, with two children, Jeremiah, 1819-1905; and Mary Jane, 1828-1842 (14); his wife Mary (Blanchard), 1789-1848 (58-59); and her mother, Hannah (Mooar) Cutler, 1768-1860.
