Biography
Carl A. Schauer was born on Saturday, September 2, 1930, in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. He was the son of Warren Schauer (Tuesday, July 8, 1902 - Wednesday, October 30, 1968) and Cosie Marie Himes Schauer (Sunday, December 18, 1904 - Saturday, March 24, 1991). His father was best known as a small business owner in Canton, i.e., Schauer Brothers Clothing Store, Doppler Cleaners, and Cricket Grill.
Carl was a 1948 graduate of Minerva High School, Minerva, Stark County, Ohio. In September 1949 he began studies as a freshman at Wilmington College, a liberal arts college located in Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio. He had enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Saturday, January 15, 1949. His military release date was Friday, December 16, 1955.
The following engagement announcement was printed in the Canton Repository, Tuesday, September 4, 1951, on page 18.
Announcement is made of the engagement of and forthcoming marriage of Miss Bonita DeLong and Mr. Carl Schauer. Miss DeLong, who resides with her sister, Mrs. Howard Bowen of 3050 Mahoning rd NE, is the daughter of Mr. George DeLong of Columbus.
Mr. Schauer is the son of Mrs. Cosie McGilton of Rogers, Ark., and Mr. Warren Schauer of 214 Roslyn ave NW.
Their wedding will take place Sept. 20 in St. Paul's Catholic Church. Open church will be observed for the ceremony that morning at 9:30 (E.S.T.)
A graduate of Lincoln High School, Miss DeLong is employed by the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. Mr. Schauer, a graduate of Minerva High School, is employed by the Minerva Wax Paper Co.
Carl passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 1974, in Canton. He is interred at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, Stark County, Ohio.
