Doris Sophia Schmahl was born on 8 Sept 1910. She was the fourth daughter of Isabella and George Schmahl. One sister, Isabella, had predeceased her birth. Her father died of stomach disease when she was only 6 years old.
Doris travelled to South Australia and attended school for a short period when her mother and stepfather, Mr Gleeson, were living in Adelaide. Her older sisters stayed in a convent in Melbourne.
Doris worked as a boot machinist for many years.
When Doris was only 19, she had a son, Maxwell Lionel Schmahl, aka Lambley. She later married the father of Max, William Lambley, on 30 May 1931 at the Baptist Manse, Gold St, Collingwood.
Unfortunately, William Lambley was convicted of theft and burglary numerous times and spent time in gaol. Doris divorced William on 15 Jan 1936.
Doris lived with her sister and her family at 26 North St Richmond, Victoria for a couple of years.
In 1940 Doris married Alfred John Boom in Perth, Western Australia. The marriage did not last and there were no children born. In 1943, they lived at Leederville, Fremantle, WA and in 1954 they were at Mt Hawthorn, WA.
Doris, also known as Dorothy (Dorrie), moved back to Melbourne and lived there until her death in a clinic at Healesville in Melbourne. In 1967 Doris was living in St Kilda, Vic.
Her name at death was recorded as Doris Jessie Boom and age 81 years in 1992. Her mother listed as Isobel Schmal and father U Schmal, spouse: Alf Boom, birthplace: Melbourne reg #14863/1992
Her cremated remains were spread at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Melbourne, Vic
