Mathias Schneider is the brother of Stephan Schneider, both sons of Nicklaus Schneider 1775-1841 and Barbara May 1785–1820. They married Berend sisters and immigrated to America, settling in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin area to farm. Mathias declared for naturalization in 1847 [1]
Mathias bought land with Stephen together, in a purchase document dated March 1850. They were tenants in common, not joint tenants [2]
In their home country, Mathias married Mary Ingrid Berent 1809–1857 and they had 10 children together. After his wife's death he married on 15 February 1858 the widow Elizabeth (Thelen) Schumacher. They had three children together and 4 infants who died shortly after birth. Mathias died 10 January 1872 in Johnsburg, Wisconsin. Elizabeth died on 6 February 1882.
