Johannes Schumann was born about 1720 in Hesse-Darmstadt. Coupled with his fiancée, the two decided to immigrate to Denmark in 1762. While in Denmark, his first wife died on 02 April 1763. Johannes then married Anna Catharina Romig, niece of Johann Valentin Romig, in Denmark, some time after 02 April 1763. Johannes and Anna Catharina had a child, Friedrich, probably born about 1764. Johannes died in Denmark, leaving his widow to remarry Jakob Tiede before the new family departed with others for Russia.

Johannes' son with Anna Catharina is named in the 1775 Grimm census as the stepson of Jakob Tiede. A copy of that census is shown below to connect him to his son.
