Biography

Birth

Ursula Scott was baptized at the parish church in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England in 1597/8: "14 ffebruary Urslaye Scoote the dawght'r of henry and Martha baptised"[1]

Ursula's uncle, Robert Whatlock, left a will in 1622, in which he names his sister as "Martha Skotte," and he names Thomas and Martha's daughter, "Ursala Kemball, my kinswoman." (See Robert Whotlocke Will of 1622 for more information.)

Ursala's father, Henry Scott, wrote his will on 14 Sep 1624. It was proven at the court of the archdeaconry of Sudbury on 10 Jan 1625/6. Ursula is not named, but her husband and three of her children are. (see will info below)

Marriage and Children

She married Richard Kimball about 1615, as their oldest son, Henry Kimball, was baptized 12 Aug of that year. Together they had at least 11 children:[2]

  1. Henry Kimball (<1615 - 1676)
  2. Abigail (Kimball) Severance (1617 - ~1658)
  3. Elizabeth Kemball (~1621 - >1675)
  4. Richard Kimball Jr. (~1623 - 1676)
  5. Mary (Kemball) Dutch (~1625 - 1686)
  6. Martha (Kimball) Fowler (1629 - ~1677)
  7. John (Kimball) Kemball (1631 - 1698)
  8. Thomas Kimball I (1633 - 1676)
  9. Sarah (Kimball) Allen (~1635 - 1696)
  10. Benjamin Kimball (1637 - 1696)
  11. Caleb Kimball (1639 - <1682)

Emigration

Ursula Kemball, her husband Richard, and seven of their children (Henry, 15; Richard, 11; Mary, 9; Martha, 5; John, 3; Thomas, 1; Elizabeth, 13, is found with the Raynor children) embarked on the Elizabeth of Ipswich the last of April in 1634, the adults taking the Oath of Allegiance at the Ipswich Customs House before sailing.[3]

The original Ipswich Custom House documents have been imaged and can be found at FindMyPast. The adults are found on folio 102 (p. 1) and the children on folios 104-05 (pp. 3-4).[4]

Death

She died sometime before 23 October 1661, as that is when her husband, married Margaret (Cole) Dow.

Is it possible to add the mtDNA testee information? If not, should this profile be removed from the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:K2b1a1a_FS_mtDNA_Haplogroup category (because the profile contains no information about the mtDNA testee)?

It appears that Marcel Muise added that category back in 2018. I will send him a private message asking if he can add a DNA statement.

GMIV: p. 158 shows her husband Richard's second marriage to widow Margaret (Cole) Dow on October 23, 1661, so Ursula must have died by them. The New England Geneaology link shows her dying in 1659/60, not 1676.

Unknown-373914 and Scott-217 appear to represent the same person because: This stray set of profiles (spouses Unknown-373914 and Kemball-58) were once assigned as parents of Elizabeth Kemball-59, age 13, who sailed on the Elizabeth 1634. Since Elizabeth's parents have been discovered, these former parents should also be merged.

SCOTT is the correct LNAB, merge into Scott. Use data from Scott-217. Data on unknown was guesses based on what we knew at the time.
